Alta's Gunsight

I needed to get some July turns in and heard about a North East facing chute that holds snow until August called Gunsight.

I expected Gunsight to be hard to find, but when I drove up the Albion Basin Road, it was the only patch of snow still on the mountain. The hike took me about 15 minutes and the skiing was about 30 seconds, but what can you expect for the end of July?

Suicide Chute

On a beautiful Thursday in Salt Lake City, I decided to use my day off and ski a Wasatch classic called the Suicide Chute. It's the only line still skiable on Mt. Superior.

I started the bootpack from the Little Cottonwood Rd. and it took me around 2 1/2 hours to reach the top of suicide. The climb was extremely difficult due to the snow and it required me to have an ice ax in each hand because of the exposure below. The chute is around 1000' vertical feet and 45 degrees at the crux.

Mt. Baldy Main Chute

Grant Sessler and I decided to ski a Wasatch classic during the summer today. We cheated by riding the Snowbird Tram up and then taking 20 minute hike to Mt. Baldy. Once on top the views were beautiful on a bluebird summer day in Utah.

After scouting our line down the main chute, we were stoked to be skiing in late June.
